How a loop works

The voice, straight to the hearing aid.

In a hall, a church or a marquee, hearing aids pick up everything: the echo, the chatter and the chairs. A loop sends the voice from the microphone straight into the hearing aid, with far less of the room around it.

  1. 01

    Sound in

A feed from the sound desk, or the hall loop’s own boundary microphone at the lectern or top table.

  2. 02

    Loop amplifier

Turns that sound into a current and drives it round the cable.

  3. 03

    The loop

A cable round the listening area, which fills it with a magnetic field carrying the sound.

  4. 04

    Hearing aid on T

Guests switch to the T or loop setting and hear the speaker clearly across the looped seating area.

Room loop

A compact loop driver for meeting rooms, breakout rooms and smaller churches, up to about 200 m². Quick to lay and easy to keep out of sight.

Best for meeting rooms, breakouts, small churches

Portable desk loops

Battery-powered one-to-one loops with a built-in microphone, for the places people talk across a counter: registration desks, bars and box offices.

What you get

A loop that actually works on the day.

A loop only helps if it’s in the right place, at the right level and fed from the right sound. We plan it with the rest of your AV. Book it on its own, or with your conference AV, community event sound or marquee heating.

  • Planned for the room — where the cable runs, where the amplifier sits and where the sound comes from
  • Safe cable runs — round the edge, taped down, with ramps where people walk
  • The right sound source — the sound desk, the lectern mic or the hall loop’s boundary microphone
  • Tested before doors — hall and marquee loops checked with a test receiver across the seating
  • Loop signs — so guests know the loop is there and switch to T
  • Delivery, set-up and collection — across Norfolk and Suffolk, with delivery priced by distance

Before you ask

Hearing loop questions.

What is a hearing loop?
A cable run round the room and driven by an amplifier. It turns the sound from the microphones or the sound desk into a magnetic field, which hearing aids pick up on their T or loop setting. The voice reaches the listener with far less of the room’s echo and background noise.
Will it work with my guests’ hearing aids?
Most hearing aids provided by the NHS have a telecoil built in. If their audiologist has set up the loop programme, guests just switch to it. For anyone whose hearing aid doesn’t have one, we hire out loop listeners with headphones.
How big an area can you loop?
Our hall and marquee loop covers up to about 1,000 m², and the room loop suits spaces up to about 200 m². For anything bigger, or more than one room, send us the layout and we’ll tell you what we can do.
Can you loop a marquee?
Yes. The cable runs round the edge of the seating area, taped down with ramps where people walk, and the amplifier takes a feed from the sound desk, so the loop carries the ceremony and the speeches.
How do you know the loop is working?
We check every hall and marquee loop with a test receiver before doors, across the seating area, so you know it works before your first guest sits down.
How much does hearing loop hire cost?
It depends on the room, the loop, how long you need it and the travel. Send us the room or marquee size, the date and the venue and we’ll come back with a quote within one working day.
Can the loop take sound from our own PA?
Yes. The loop amplifier takes a feed from your sound desk, and the hall loop can also use its own boundary microphone. If we’re supplying your sound, we plan the loop with it.
Do we have to provide a hearing loop?
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers, including venues and the organisers of events open to the public, must make reasonable adjustments so disabled people aren’t put at a substantial disadvantage. What’s reasonable depends on your event, and we can’t give legal advice, but a loop is often the simplest way to make the speeches and talks work for people with hearing aids.
Which areas do you cover?
We’re based near Diss on the Norfolk–Suffolk border and install loops across Norfolk and Suffolk, including Norwich, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Great Yarmouth, Thetford and King’s Lynn. Further afield on request; see areas we cover.
