The festoon
Two densities, and somewhere to hang them.
All PAT tested, with each item’s day rate on its product page.
Festoon, bulb every 1 m
Twenty metres with twenty warm-white LED bulbs. The classic look for walkways, garden runs and marquee entrances, and the one most outdoor weddings use. 1 m spacing
Best for walkways, gardens, entrances
Festoon, bulb every 0.5 m
Forty bulbs over the same twenty metres, for a fuller, brighter canopy over a dancefloor, a dining area or a marquee ceiling. 0.5 m spacing
Best for canopies, dancefloors, terraces
Festoon support poles, 2.75 m
Free-standing poles with weighted bases for grass, gravel or paving, where there are no trees, walls or marquee frames to fix to. We hold eight, enough for a 35 m run with a pole every 5 m. Festoon poles
Best for open lawns, car parks, courtyards
| Which spacing? | Bulbs per 20 m | Look | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bulb every 1 m | 20 | Open, classic, soft | Walkways, perimeters, long garden runs |
| Bulb every 0.5 m | 40 | Full, bright, a ceiling of light | Canopies over dancing or dining |
Pair it with uplighting for the trees and marquee walls, see everything for outdoor event lighting, or keep guests outside longer with heater hire.
Layouts
Four shapes cover most events.
The layout decides how much festoon you need far more than the size of the space does. A straight run along a path needs a fraction of a full canopy.
Straight run
One line of festoon along a path, a fence line or the front of a marquee. The simplest look and the least festoon, with a pole every five metres or so.
Zig-zag canopy
Festoon criss-crossing the space from side to side. The classic canopy over a dancefloor, a dining area or a courtyard, and the look most couples ask for.
Parallel runs
Straight lines across the space at even gaps, for a tidier, more architectural ceiling over long tables or a terrace.
Perimeter
Festoon around the edge of a lawn, a terrace or a dancefloor, framing the space without covering it. Inside a marquee or tipi it can also run out from a centre point in a starburst.
