AV & event hire · Wymondham
Sound, lighting and staging for Wymondham.
An abbey town with a lively live-music scene, a market cross at the centre of its Christmas, a heritage railway and a cluster of country-house, golf-hotel and barn venues within a few miles. We supply sound, lighting, staging and screens across Wymondham — delivered and set up, or dry hired if you'd rather run it yourself.
Getting there
Half an hour up the road.
Wymondham is about twenty-two miles north of our base at Roydon near Diss — around thirty-five minutes by van via Attleborough and the A11. That makes it one of our easiest market towns to serve: early load-ins are no problem, a site visit before a wedding or conference is easy to arrange, and if something is needed mid-event we are close enough to bring it.
Its position on the A11 between Norwich and the south also means Wymondham hosts a lot of business events — training days, launches and company dinners for firms on the Norwich side of the county and around the Hethel engineering cluster — alongside the weddings and community events you would expect. Both kinds of work are bread and butter for us.
Delivery is priced by distance and shown separately in the quote. Dry hire from Roydon is a short run for anyone heading north on the A11.
Venues in and around Wymondham
From the Central Hall to Capability Brown parkland.
Wymondham is unusual for a town of its size in having a genuinely good mix of venues — a busy concert hall, an abbey, and three or four serious wedding and conference venues on the edge of town.
- Wymondham Central HallThe town's go-to venue for gigs and community events — the Wymondham Music Events Group runs ticketed tribute nights here through the year. For a band night the essentials are a front-of-house system with enough headroom for a full band, stage monitors so the musicians can hear themselves, and stage lighting that looks like a show rather than a function.
- Wymondham Abbey, Church StreetThe great twin-towered abbey church hosts concerts, recitals and community events as well as services. A long stone nave is a beautiful acoustic for choirs and a hard one for speech — we use slim column speakers down the length of the building rather than one loud pair at the front, and can add a portable hearing loop.
- Kimberley HallAn exclusive-use country house just outside the town, set in parkland landscaped by Capability Brown. Ceremonies of up to around 130 are held in the Music Room, with receptions in the glass-walled West Wing overlooking the lake. A glass room needs lighting that works with the view at dusk, not against it.
- Barnham Broom HotelA golf, spa and conference hotel a few miles north of Wymondham that hosts weddings, business conferences and dinners. Hotel conference rooms often have screens and basic sound; we add what a bigger event needs — a larger screen or LED wall, presenter radio mics, a lectern and an operator.
- Church Manor BarnA barn wedding venue near Wymondham. Converted barns reward warm uplighting on the timbers and a sound system set up to stay clear in a tall, reverberant room.
- Becket's Chapel and the town centreThe medieval chapel in the town centre is one of the venues for the Wymondham Words literary festival, and the Market Cross itself is the focus for the Christmas light switch-on. Small spaces and outdoor town-centre events need compact, quick-to-rig kit.
We name these to help you plan, not to claim them as clients. Every venue has its own rules on load-in, noise and power, and we check with them directly before the day.

Town-centre stages
Running a stage for a Christmas festival.
Town-centre festivals like Wynterfest and the light switch-on are some of the trickiest events to get right, because they mix everything at once: a band, a compère, a choir of schoolchildren, announcements about lost children, and a crowd spread along streets rather than in front of a stage. Most of the problems are predictable.
We plan the stage first — a level modular stage with steps and handrails, a roof or gazebo if the weather turns, and a safe cable route that does not cross the walkway. Sound is aimed down the street rather than at the shopfronts opposite, with a second speaker position further along if the crowd stretches. Children's choirs get several microphones placed close, because young voices do not project. And we keep a radio mic on the side of the stage for the organiser, so a safety announcement never waits for the band to finish. With power coming from a distro rather than a shop's spare socket, the whole thing keeps running when the kettles go on in the market stalls.
Common questions
AV hire in Wymondham, answered.
How quickly can you get to Wymondham?
Wymondham is about twenty-two miles from our base near Diss, roughly thirty-five minutes via Attleborough and the A11. That means early load-ins, a site visit beforehand where it matters, and same-night collection are all realistic.
Can you provide a PA and engineer for a band night at the Central Hall?
Yes. For a band night we supply a front-of-house PA with proper headroom, stage monitors, a mixing desk and an engineer to run it, plus stage lighting. Tell us the line-up and we will check what the band brings so you do not pay for anything twice.
Can you make speech audible in Wymondham Abbey?
Yes. A long stone church needs several slim column speakers spaced down the nave, set at a moderate level, rather than one loud pair at the front. We add radio mics for readers and presenters and can supply a portable hearing loop.
Do you supply weddings at Kimberley Hall and Barnham Broom?
We supply weddings at country houses, hotels and barns in and around Wymondham, including ceremony microphones, PA for speeches and dancing, and uplighting. Each venue has its own rules on load-in and noise, and we confirm them with the venue before the day.
Can you supply the stage and sound for a town-centre Christmas event?
Yes — staging with steps and handrails, sound aimed along the street, microphones for choirs and compères, lighting for the dark afternoon, and power distribution so the stage does not rely on borrowed sockets. Book early, because late November and early December are our busiest weeks.
Can we collect equipment from you instead?
Yes. Dry hire is collected from our base at Roydon near Diss, a short run from Wymondham. Everything goes out tested and cased with the right cables, plus a simple setup guide, and we are on the phone if you need us.
