Getting there

Close enough for a site visit.

Halesworth is about 24 miles east of our base at Roydon, near Diss — along the A143 past Harleston to Bungay, then south on the A144 into the town. Allow approximately 40 minutes in a loaded van. That is an approximate figure, and the A143 can be slower behind farm traffic at harvest time. Guests coming by train can use Halesworth's own station on the East Suffolk Line between Ipswich and Lowestoft.

The town centre needs a little planning. The Thoroughfare, Halesworth's historic shopping street, is largely closed to traffic, so access to venues along it is by arrangement and at the right time of day. Wednesday is market day in the Market Place, and the town's bigger days — the Christmas switch-on in particular — close streets for parades and stalls. We agree the loading point and time with the venue before the day so the build is never waiting for a parking space.

Being this close changes what is possible. A site visit before a wedding or a show is easy to fit in, an early load-in is no problem, and we can come back the same night to collect rather than leaving equipment on site. Delivery is priced by distance and shown as its own line in your quote, and dry hire from Roydon is a short run for anyone happy to collect.

Venues in and around Halesworth

From New Cut to the estates.

Halesworth's own venues are intimate and often community-run, while the estates around it host some of the biggest outdoor events in Suffolk. These are real places people ask us about, and what each kind of space tends to need.

  • The Cut, New CutHalesworth's arts centre, with a 200-seat theatre that has adjustable staging, tiered seating and its own professional sound and lighting, plus a studio with a sprung floor, meeting rooms and a concourse used for exhibitions. It is home to the INK Festival. With a theatre this well equipped, our role is the extras — more radio mics, a screen, or kit for an event in the studio or concourse.
  • The Angel, ThoroughfareA sixteenth-century coaching inn on the Thoroughfare. Rooms in old inns like this suit a compact speech system, background music and uplighting on freestanding stands, with cable routes agreed so nothing is fixed to the building.
  • Halesworth Millennium GreenAround 44 acres of grazing marsh close to the town centre — the largest Millennium Green in the UK. Outdoor events here have no mains to hand, so we supply battery-powered kit (or can coordinate a generator for you), weather-protected speakers and a sound plan that keeps nearby homes in mind.
  • Halesworth Town ParkUsed for the town council's outdoor afternoon with live music, food and stalls. Events like this suit a small stage or performance area, a PA for bands and announcements, and a power plan that also covers the catering.
  • St Mary's ChurchThe parish church, which hosts the town's Christmas market. Churches need speech-focused sound in a reverberant space, freestanding stands and a hearing loop for anyone who uses hearing aids.
  • Heveningham Hall and Henham ParkTwo great estates within a short drive: Heveningham Hall hosts a country fair and concours in late June, and Henham Park, east of the town, is home to the Latitude festival. At Latitude 2026 we supplied the PA for a brand space ourselves — read the case study. Estate sites need power distribution, long cable runs and IP-rated kit.

Apart from Henham Park, where we supplied PA for a brand space at Latitude, we name these places to help you plan, not to claim them as our clients. We check every venue's rules on access, noise and power directly before the day.

Halesworth advice

Sound for a street event.

Town events such as a Christmas switch-on or a summer street day happen along a street rather than in front of a stage. That changes how sound should be set up.

Spread it out, keep it low

A crowd strung along a street cannot all stand in front of one pair of speakers. Put a big system at one end and people near it are deafened while people at the far end still cannot hear the announcements. The answer is several smaller speakers spaced along the route, each covering its own stretch at a comfortable level, all fed from one microphone and one music source.

Battery-powered speakers make this easy — no cables across the street, no trip hazards and no generator noise next to the stalls.

Plan the moments that matter

Decide where the switch-on, the speeches or the band will happen, and give that spot a slightly bigger system and some light so the crowd can see who is speaking. Give the person on the microphone a short running order, and give stewards two-way radios so a lost child or a blocked road is dealt with quickly.

Check early who manages the street and what permissions the event needs, and we will send our insurance and risk assessment wherever they are wanted.

Common questions

AV hire in Halesworth, answered.

How quickly can you get to Halesworth?

We are about 24 miles away at Roydon, near Diss, and it takes approximately 40 minutes by van via Bungay and the A144. That is an approximate figure, but it means a site visit beforehand, an early load-in and a same-night collection are all realistic. Delivery is shown as its own line in your quote.

Can you work with The Cut's own equipment?

Yes. The Cut's theatre has its own sound and lighting, so for most shows that is the starting point. We supply what an event adds — extra radio microphones, a screen for a talk or presentation, or kit for an event in the studio or concourse — and we speak to the venue's team before the day.

Can you do sound along the Thoroughfare for a street event or switch-on?

Yes. For a street event we space several smaller, battery-powered speakers along the route so everyone hears the announcements at a comfortable level, with a slightly bigger system and some lighting at the spot where the main moment happens. Two-way radios for stewards are available too.

Can you power an event on the Millennium Green or a field?

Yes. We supply 16A, 32A and 63A power distribution with the cable runs to reach the stage and catering, and we can coordinate a generator as part of the build. For a small ceremony or a pop-up event, battery-powered PA needs no mains at all.

Do you supply weddings at estates and farm venues near Halesworth?

Yes. We cover the ceremony, speeches and evening party as one plan — microphones, a PA sized to your guest numbers, uplighting and festoon lighting, and the power distribution for a marquee — coordinated with your marquee company and caterer.

How far ahead should we book?

For summer Saturdays, four to six months is sensible, particularly around Latitude week in late July and the August festival weekends, which overlap with peak wedding season. Midweek and winter dates are often available at much shorter notice, and because we are close, short-notice jobs are always worth asking about.
